Waves hit the Western Australian rocks at Injidup Natural Spa, Margaret River

Everything you need to know about Margaret River Natural Spa

5 Jan 2023

Western Australia’s South West region is famous for its beautiful beaches, crystal clear water and secluded rock pools.

Close to Yallingup and just north of Margaret River is Injidup Natural Spa. Also known as Wyadup Rocks, the natural spa was once a well-kept secret of the region and is now a popular spot for holidaymakers.

Here is everything you need to know about the Margaret River natural spa, including the best time to visit and how to get there.

What is the Injidup Natural Spa?

This beautiful natural spa is caused by waves from the Indian Ocean crashing over rocks and creating a hidden rock pool and mini waterfall. Depending on the tide, the waterfall may be gushing, or just a small trickle.

How to get there

The natural spa is located about thirty minutes north of Margaret River and around fifteen minutes south of Yallingup.

To reach the spa, turn off Caves Road onto Wyadup Road. Don’t veer onto Cape Clairault Road which is where you’ll find the Injidup Spa Retreat, but instead follow Wyadup Road until you reach the car park. On the left of the car park you’ll see a track that leads to the spa. You will need to climb over some rocks and boulders to reach the natural spa.

Best time to visit

The natural spa can get very busy, particularly during holiday periods. Visiting on weekdays during the school term is probably your best bet for minimising the number of other people around. The best time to visit is early in the morning to try to beat the crowds.

Check the tides before you head out, as visiting at low tide is best. The spa can get quite turbulent during high tide.

The water from the Indian Ocean can be chilly, so summer is the best time to visit for a dip. That being said, it may be less busy during the winter period.

Injidup Beach

If you want to go for a proper ocean swim once you’ve visited the spa, it’s worth heading to Injidup Beach rather than following the water from the natural spa out into the ocean, where the currents can be very strong. From the car park, the beach is to the left of the path that leads to the spa.

If you plan on swimming at Injidup Beach, which is to the south of the natural spa, take the usual precautions in the water. The swell can be strong here, so stay in the shallows unless you’re a confident swimmer. The beach is unpatrolled all year round.

Injidup Beach is a popular surf spot. The waves can be strong, averaging around one metre at the southern end.

Fishing from the beach is permitted, but as Injidup Beach is within the Injidup Sanctuary Zone, fishing from a boat is prohibited.

Other things to know

Depending on the swell and tides, the Injidup Natural Spa may be more turbulent, with large waterfalls crashing over the rocks. Always make sure you take care near the water and walk carefully over the rocks to and from the spa.

There are other small tidal pools nearby, but they may not be as sheltered from the ocean, so take care if there are strong currents. Feel free to explore surrounding rocks, as you may come across secret rock pools.

Make sure you bring a towel, water and sun protection. Always apply sunscreen, because even if there’s a cool breeze coming off the ocean the sun can do a lot of damage.

Remember – be patient! It’s very unlikely you’ll find the spa without any other people visiting, so be patient and understanding, and everyone can enjoy this wonderful spa.

Fabulous day tour of the Margaret River

"Fabulous day tour of the Margaret River region! Steve was a terrific tour guide and provided us with so much knowledge about the area. The whole day was extremely well organised and we enjoyed each place we visited. The wine tastings were extremely generous and lunch was delicious. We especially enjoyed visiting Vasse Virgin skincare and gourmet foods and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory in the afternoon. This is a great tour if you are limited in time as it gives you a wonderful experience of the Margaret River all in one day. We will definitely be back!"

Amazing family orientated

"This was a fantastic tour. I brought my parents to see this region of WA who are a bit elderly I their 70s, my mother also being a non drinker. But they loved every minute of it, from the coffee in the morning to the wineries and chocolate in the afternoon. The wine tastings just keep coming, so you'll never sober up lol. Also on our trip the group were the most decent diverse ppl from all over the world just looking to have a good time and we all got on so well. I would definitely recommend this trip and for me personally one of the best tours I've been on in my life because of the awesome ppl I met on the tour and Clarice who ran the whole thing. She was an absolute sweety. Cannot recommend this anymore"

Amazing intimate wine tour experience!!

"Fantastic all day wine tour!! Firstly, Clarice was the absolute BOMB!!! So informative about all things wine and the place she calls home. Such a gorgeous person and made everyone on the tour feel relaxed and happy. We never felt rushed at the stops. Saw some amazing family run wineries. All of them incredibly passionate about their craft and you can’t help but get swept up in their journey. Our favorite was Brown Hill winery. Really beautiful wines! We had a great lunch at the Nookery cafe and they even gave us all a complimentary sparkling wine to celebrate our honeymoon! We finished the tour at the West Wings Distillery and tried their amazing gins and vodka (not that we needed more alcohol by then!!). I would highly recommend this great tour. Small and intimate with a great host! Thanks again Clarice!!! 🥰"
